STOP IT!!! Good is GOOD ENOUGH!!!
Are you procrastinating and NOT doing what you know you should do in your business because you feel that what you’ve done isn’t good enough? Like making a YouTube video?
Do you strive for perfection? And in doing so you don’t move forward?
Do you spend hours obsessing over the tiniest details until they’re exactly right?
There are times when perfection is called for, of course, but I’ve learned that for the sake of moving forward – that most of the time, “good enough” will do.
Here are some key items that will help you overcome the obsession of perfection!
1 – Planning
Set a bench mark before you even start your new project or action, for what ‘good enough’ looks like. And then move on it!
2 – Confidence
Our push towards perfection is not driven by a desire to do our best but by a fear that our work — and our-self — isn’t good enough – and that we’ll be judged on this. Here are some steps that you can take to build up your confidence level:
Journal your successes, no matter how small.
Set yourself up for successes by planning achievable benchmarks and goals (as above).
Make a list of your strengths. Be honest — there are probably more than you think!
Make a list of your weaknesses, and focus on improving them. Again, be honest — there are probably less than you think.
Discuss your weaknesses with your loved ones. They probably have a different perspective!
Give yourself explicit permission to fail at something. Don’t make your self-worth contingent on constant success.
3 – Embrace Mistakes
Mistakes are the stuff of personal growth, and making the right mistakes can help you build a firmer foundation for any project. Embrace mistakes as part of the process of getting to good enough.
Now lighten up and do what you know you need to do to grow in your business. Maybe it’s making video’s, maybe it’s writing a blog. Just step out, do it and publish it. It’s called the ‘Process of Learning’. If you don’t, you’ll stay stuck!
